Performance Anxiety

The fear of not being 'good enough,' of disappointing a partner, or of your body not responding the way you want it to, can take over a moment that's supposed to be about connection.

What it can look like

Performance anxiety in a sexual context is the worry, self-monitoring, or fear of judgment that shows up before or during intimacy — often pulling you out of the moment and into your head. It can affect anyone, regardless of gender, and can both cause and result from other difficulties like erectile dysfunction, low desire, or pain, creating a loop that's hard to break alone.

How therapy can help

Using a humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approach, we work on identifying the thoughts and beliefs fueling the anxiety, reducing self-monitoring, and gradually rebuilding a sense of safety and presence during intimacy — whether you're navigating this individually or as a couple.
